My Simple Oman Visa Experience
Before sharing Muscat’s beauty, let me tell you about the Oman visa.
The process looked very confusing at first—too many options, unclear forms, and repeated documents. After wasting a couple of hours, we finally decided to take help from Atlys.

Day 1: Landing in Muscat + Beautiful Evening at Al Mouj Marina
We flew from Hyderabad and booked a hotel close to the airport for convenience. Later in the evening, we decided to explore Al Mouj Marina, and it instantly became one of my favorite things to do in Muscat.
The weather was slightly cool, and people were casually walking along the water. The entire stretch was filled with cute cafés and shops. Since we went with our baby, I loved that the whole area was stroller-friendly.
We grabbed some fresh cookies, enjoyed the marina view, and later had a simple pizza dinner before returning to our hotel. The perfect calm start to our trip!
Day 2: IKEA, Mosque Visit, Opera House & Muttrah Fort
Morning at IKEA
We began our day with a quick visit to the huge IKEA in Muscat. Although we didn’t plan to shop much, we loved exploring their collection. We even enjoyed a delicious grilled salmon lunch there.
Visiting the Mohammed Al Ameen Mosque
Our next stop was a Mohammed Al Ameen Mosque, We were actually scared because the visiting hours for tourists looked strict. But luckily, a kind man guided us and allowed us in. He requested women to wear an abaya.
Inside, the mosque was simply beautiful—tall walls, grand chandeliers, and peaceful ambience.
Sultan Qaboos Opera House
From there, we went to the Opera House. It was grand and elegant, with a guide who explained everything in detail. A very classy experience!
Climbing Muttrah Fort
Later, we headed towards Muttrah Fort. Looking at the steps from below was scary because they were steep and long. Since we had a baby, my husband carried him while we left the stroller at the ticket counter.
The climb was tiring but manageable. And once we reached the top, the view was totally worth it—Muscat’s old charm, blue water, and mountains all at once.
There is even a Fort Café on the top where we grabbed some drinks before heading back.
Day 3: Exploring the Grand Mosque + Palace + Museum
Grand Mosque – A Must in Muscat
The next day was fully dedicated to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of the top things to do in Muscat.
Be prepared:
They are very strict about dress code. Not even ankles should be visible. Since my jeans were rugged, they asked me to wear an abaya. I rented one again for 2 OMR.
Inside, the Grand Mosque looked stunning—massive carpets, giant chandeliers, and intricate details everywhere. It’s a peaceful and divine place.
Al Alam Palace
We then visited the iconic Al Alam Palace. Entry is not allowed inside, but we admired the huge palace from outside and clicked pictures. It truly looks royal.
National Museum
Right next to the palace is the National Museum of Oman, which gives a good insight into Oman’s history and culture. A quiet and informative place.
Day 4: Cruise Ride + Bimmah Sinkhole + Wadi Shab
This was my favorite adventure day!
Morning Cruise Ride
We went for a cruise ride in the Muscat harbour. The sea breeze and coastal views made it a relaxing family activity.
Bimmah Sinkhole
Next, we visited the famous Bimmah Sinkhole. The walk is short, but you need to take stairs to reach the bottom. The water inside looks magical. We dipped our feet and it felt refreshing after a long day.
Wadi Shab
From there, we proceeded to Wadi Shab, one of the most beautiful natural spots in Oman.
First, a small boat takes you across the river. After that, there is a 40-minute walk to reach the main wadi.
The hike was long but the views were breathtaking—turquoise water, mountains, and natural pools. It’s definitely one of the top things to do in Muscat and nearby areas.
After exploring so much, we returned tired but satisfied.
Day 5: Back to Hyderabad
We packed up and returned to Hyderabad with a phone full of memories and a heart full of peace. Muscat is truly underrated.
