Under the Moon Hyderabad β a calm lake escape near HiTech City. Know the distance, location, how to reach, things to do, and where to slow down.
How we planned to visit Under the Moon Lake Hyderabad
Iβll be honest β We didnβt plan this trip. One Saturday, somewhere between caffeine and chaos, I decided I needed quiet. A friend texted, βTry Under the Moon Hyderabad. Itβs peaceful and no one knows about it yet.β
Ten minutes later we were on Maps. The photos looked unreal a silvery lake, soft lights, tall trees over water. Not a crowd in sight. By evening, I told my husband lets go.

Where exactly it is
The Under the Moon Lake Hyderabad location sits on the far edge of the city, tucked between small farms and open land. You wonβt see big boards or milestone for this. Its just a stretch of quiet road and then, suddenly, water.

Itβs not fancy, and thatβs the beauty of it. Birds, breeze, ripples thatβs all you get, and somehow itβs enough.
Distance from HiTech City Hyderabad
From HiTech City, itβs roughly 78 kilometres. We left around 4:30 p.m., hit the Outer Ring Road, and reached in a bit over two hours (blame a tea stop and a goat traffic-jam).
The first hour is smooth highway, the second one is the countryside kind of pretty uneven roads. The last few kilometres go narrow, but donβt panic; the lake shows up when you least expect it, glowing in the dusk.
Routes that actually work
- Fast route: HiTech City β ORR Exit 12 β regional highway β village road. Good tarmac, fewer surprises.
- Scenic route: Gachibowli β Chevella β rural belt. Slower, greener, way more photogenic.
I went scenic one way, fast the other. The balance felt perfect β a bit of adventure, a bit of comfort.
How to reach
By Train
Nearest major stop is Hyderabad Deccan (Nampally). From the station, a cab takes around two hours.
By Road
Hop on a TSRTC bus toward Chevella or nearby towns. From there, grab an auto. Itβs cheap and fun if youβre not in a hurry. By car easiest. Google Maps works till the last few minutes; download offline just in case. Roll down the windows the smell of fields beats any air freshener.
By Flight
If youβre flying into the city, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is 65β70 km away. Book a cab and youβre there in under two hours.

What to actually do there
The first few minutes, do nothing. Just stand. The air feels different damp, cool, kind of earthy. Youβll hear crickets, maybe see the first star. Thatβs when the place starts working its quiet magic.
Watch the sunset β The sky bleeds orange into purple, and the lake turns mirror-silver. Itβs one of those views that make you forget to take photos.
Walk by the shore β No loudspeakers, no ticket stalls. Just a path, a few benches, and maybe an old fisherman fixing his net. If peace had a sound, this would be it.
Bonfire chats β Some stays nearby light small bonfires. We ended up singing off-key 90s songs and roasting corn someone had brought. Zero luxury, 100 percent warmth.
Furthermore, the best thing you can do is “Nothing”, just sit on one of the boulders and dip your feet under the water and think of the best moments of your life.
Best time to visit
Honestly, thereβs no bad time to visit Under the Moon Hyderabad. Every season paints the lake a little differently.
If you go in winter, the air turns cool and crisp perfect for long walks and lazy bonfire nights. During the rainy season, everything looks greener, fresher, and the earthy smell after a drizzle feels like natureβs own perfume.
Even if you canβt plan a full weekend, just one evening here is totally worth the drive. Sit by the lake, watch the sky change colors, and youβll see why this spot feels special no matter when you visit.

How it felt to leave
At night it was full moon floated above the lake like it refused to say goodbye. We finally started and said lets visit next weekend again.
